Educational institutions should actively encourage their students to choose fields of study that will prepare them for lucrative careers.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons and/or examples that could be used to challenge your position.
It’s a duty of all institutes to enlighten their students with knowledge and encourage their creativity. It’s better for students to follow and prepare for their careers. Because if they blindly follow their institute’s advice, they may face problem in the future.
It is said that ‘Path does create the travelers; travelers create the path. So, it is best for the students to choose their career on their own. So that they can use their maximum creativity and their hard work to flourish in their life. Before we discuss about this, we should need to know how ancient educational institute work. In Socrates school Socrates raised a question and it was a duty to all of their students to discuss and about that question and express their knowledge and choose a side of it. By doing this those students actually understood what is their true passion of subject or knowledge and they devoted their lives on that. That’s how the ancient gained so many philosophers, scientists and physicians.
From that example we can acknowledge that students should understand themselves like what Socrates said ‘know thyself’. Without knowing one’s true passion, it is not possible for anyone to shine in life. Steve jobs never completed his degree in college and university same as Elon musk and Mark Jackerburg also.
But that doesn’t mean that the educational institutes should not encourage themselves in their path of passion, but when the word ‘lucrative careers’ comes up that is disturbing. In modern society lucrative careers means engineers, doctors or career in the stock market because one can earn much more money on those careers. So, does that mean educational institute discourage their students on other careers which do not bring us money as those? That will have a serious effect in our society and era. It means that students should choose only those jobs which are profitable.
The duty of an educational institutes should encourage their students about their passion, not to give suggestion which careers are profitable which are not.
