Claim: Researchers should not limit their investigations to only those areas in which they expect to discover something that has an immediate, practical application.
Reason: It is impossible to predict the outcome of a line of research with any certainty.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim and the reason on which that claim is based.
My Response
Research is done to analyse a particular field that is new to research area or to improve results of previously studied areas. Reseachers do constant research to explore and improve the implications of a particular research area. One cannot deny that tech-researchers have been doing constant research to innovate and bring new interfaces to mobile phones. If we compare our smart phones with the pagers of the past, we realise the dramatic shift in devices of communication used in present day and past. This sift is due to the continuous investigations done by the researchers to improve methods and modes of communication. Therefore, not drawing any line between the immediate outcome and other possibilities.
Research is carried out to not only study immediate outcomes but also future possibilities that may arise. For instance, in the medical field, researchers carry out rigorous investigation to explore the effects of a particular antidote to cure a particular disease on several living organisms in varied conditions. With a view to discover a perfect antidote, medical researchers further investigates other possible compounds that can be used in the antidote to help in instant recovery from the disease.
The discovery of wheel by the nomadics and the then innovation in aeronautics and now discovery of mopeds substantiate the claim that researchers delimit their investigations to bring out immediate as well as future innovative outcomes. Thus, there is no end to the study of research in any field.
Many researches done are not useful to evaluate any possible outcome.
Hence, researchers should not limit their research to discover an immediate implication, but, carry out continuous investigations to study all possible results of that research and improve the findings.
