The following was written as a part of an application for a small-business loan by a group of developers in the city of Monroe.
A jazz music club in Monroe would be a tremendously profitable enterprise. Currently, the nearest jazz club is 65 miles away; thus, the proposed new jazz club in Monroe, the C-Note, would have the local market all to itself. Plus, jazz is extremely popular in Monroe: over 100,000 people attended Monroe's annual jazz festival last summer; several well-known jazz musicians live in Monroe; and the highest-rated radio program in Monroe is 'Jazz Nightly,' which airs every weeknight at 7 P.M. Finally, a nationwide study indicates that the typical jazz fan spends close to $1,000 per year on jazz entertainment."
The writer claim that a jazz music club in Monroe would be a tremendously profitable enterprise as there is no other alternative club and the nearest jazz club is far away. Therefore proposed new jazz club in Monroe would led to tremendous profit. However it is not entirely and logically convincing because it is based on few unproven assumption.
Firstly, the writer believes that Jazz is extremely popular in Monroe as majority of people have attended Monroe's annual jazz festival last summer and this time also it will result the same. But is quite possible that what result last summer's Monroe's annual jazz will not result same this time. Its is equally possible that majority of people have attended Monroe's annual jazz festival last summer not because they are inetrested in jazz music but along with jazz music, club have various other types of music and people are more interested in other music as compared to jazz music. Thus the absence of proper evidence it is hard to conclude that Jazz is extremely popular in Monroe. Thus, if it could found true, then it can be investigate further.
Secondly, the writer states that there is a high rated radio program in Monroe which airs every weeknight. This groundless the argument because it is quite possible that people are not interested going to club and this may be the reason why they prefer radio. what is more, the writer fails to convince a causal relationship between some well know jazz musicians and the enterprise. It may be possible that well known jazz musicians are retired and they do not perform any more. Thus, there is no evidence to support argument.
In summary, the argument given above weaken the basis of suggestion given in application as writer did not provide any sufficient evidence to evaluate the reasoning of assumption that proposed new jazz club in Monroe would be a tremendously profitable enterprise. Without providing further evidence the view of writer is unconvincing and also not well reasoned.
