Issue Topic - The best way for a society to prepare its young for leadership in government, industry, or other fields is by instilling in them a sense of cooperation, not competition.
Write a response in which you discuss the extend to which you agree or disagree with the claim. In developing and supporting your position, be sure to address the most compelling reasons or examples that could be used to challenge your position.
The way that society has been built for centuries has been through means of competition. Ranging from tribal days to as far back before man began walking on earth. Survival traits are innate to human beings whilst causing wars to unleash, big corporations to overthrow small businesses in tech industries, over ruled by dominating political chairs and more.
Leadership takes time to build and teaching unorthodox methods of how to lead others through a role that few are chosen is no easy feature. In society there is a dearth of characters that fit into an area of expertise such as law, computer industry, medicine, the hospitality industry, and even in the fields of manual labor. These areas have leaders that built better team building skills, on the job tasks, efficiency, communication and teaching others on personal improvement for the better of the group to name a few. The future ultimately lay on the heads of the youth but they learn from their leaders and environment.
To have an atmosphere where signs of empathy, cooperation, open communication, having an open mind and going outside of your circle of influence can add greater value than to dominate others. Working together as a team in the areas mentioned earlier makes for a healthier working atmosphere, and workers that can execute in efficient results. Clashing with opposing forces in areas such as the government has lead to unresolved dispute and the greater of two evils growing abundantly. Having opposing views is acceptable, different goals, philosophies, creative ideas for their particular industry is all part of how the world is made up. What is not acceptable is not coming to a consensus on how to move forward in a progressive manner.
Competition has its time and place such as the fields of sports, arenas, showing events but when society as a whole wants to move through cooperation there is no room for this type of mentality. This turns into a dog eat dog type of environment and a never ending cycle. When two industries begin to side along another and begin looking at how to cooperate in tackling a task, positive results happen. Rather than two oil companies picking at each others neck to distribute the most petroleum why not work together or at least communicate what the end goal is and how can both get there in cooperation.
Society as a whole can begin to evolve in a cooperative manner by modeling a win/win mentality. What this entails for example, is when a department at the hospital has low funds to provide their staff with protective equipment and another area notices this rather than allowing this to happen loathing in their abundance of equipment why not help that team out. In the future that same department may come around and give them a helping hand progressing towards cooperation.
