The passage claims that Universities should require every student to take a variety of courses outside the students field of study. We are a part of 21st century, where every individual dreams about getting ahead of one another. A never ending race that has been going on since ages. A healthy competition is what makes a person judge his abilities and analyze himself of how far he can go in order to excel in life. A diversified knowledge is what this generation requires. Hence, I more or less agree with the topic.
Firstly, Imagine if a student has been majoring in marketing in his college years and he is in his last semester, and doesn’t even know how to fill his income tax return or doesn’t even know how to manage a team of people. A person who has only focused and learned one thing in his entire career i.e. how to market a product. Would that be judicious? Well, common sense tells me no. Here the role of universities came in. It is the duty of them to teach student a little bit about every necessary and essential field, not just in college but since the beginning of his student life. A novice will have endless opportunities to discover their passionate interest since the starting of their career. Consider the ample amount of talent and art they may bring into this world, if they were introduced to their field of interest at the initial level.
Secondly, take into account that the university has a policy that each student has to learn the basic knowledge of every field, not just theoretically but also imply it practically. A rudimentary level knowledge of every stream in this world will give a student’s life a 360 degree shape. It is famously stated “True knowledge is in knowing more and more about less and less”. We know that at first, student will consider it as a burden, but as the years pass by they will consider it as blessing.
Additionally, students would be able to compete healthily with diversity of people and could articulate his points of view without considering himself a fool. A world where no-one doubt their thoughts and they can put it out in the world confidently and gallantry.
To summarize, universities should give an individual the freedom to choose a course outside his/her field of study. An opportunity that can help them continue their hobbies for life or either convert that hobby into a career. A complete freedom for shaping their own life.
