Quote:
Educational institutions should actively encourage their students to choose fields of study that will prepare them for lucrative careers.
Write a response in which you discuss your views on the policy and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider the possible consequences of implementing the policy and explain how these consequences shape your position.
A students’s life is spent mostly with their peers in schools, colleges, training institutes, etc. And it is this time which majorly affects the thought process of a student for various aspects of life. The career aspirations and goals of a student is one of such aspects of life. If not provided with a proper guidance and encouragement, the career of students may get derailed due to bad choice of the field of study. And if the students get that right guidance and encouragement from educational institutes where they spent most active and major part of the day, it will be a boon for them if such a policy is implemented.
Such policy will lead into a direct involvement of teachers, professors and career counsellors with the students and their parents or guardians. For example, a seminar involving professional counsellors as experts and students and/or their parents as audience may be organised to have an open deliberations on the aspects of various fields of study where real time queries may be addressed and more clarity may be imparted to the students.
Furthermore, such policy may also encourage educational institutes, students and their guardians to have an in-person sessions with certified careercounsellors, industry experts, etc. Right guidance through qualified professionals will serve as a torch of enlightment for students, especially those who donot have proper clarity about the fields of study and respective career opportunities. Such one to one active interactions will clear their foggy minds of their doubts and will help them to take an informed decision about their career and hence their future. For example, a student who is good at economics as well as science and maths is , in general, remains confused about the slection between these two strems when going for selective study. A lucid comparison about the propsects of these fields will help her to narrow down her choice to one of them.
Also, as a result of such policy, the over risk taking factors of students will also get rationalised as a field of study will result in the career which that field has to offer and students may get swayed by superficial lustre of careers, which if one gets there is surely an attractive career but the probability of getting success in such endeavors might be very minute. Such illusive career path may land the future of the present student in doldrums. For example, one may aspire for acting courses but in view of a professional counsellor, she is not suited for such career due to poor physic or poor acting aptitude but she may excel in Arts and Cultural fields and such field provide lucrative career options like archiologists.
In today’s world, there are numerous fields of study and one may go haywire while choosing career paths if not guided actively and best means to that is through educational institutes. More over one may argue that such active encouragement may lead to misguidance by the counsellors and may turn respective guradians of students into a dictatorial ones pushing their sons and daughters for opting for such fields which may not be of the interest and according to the aptitude of the students. To overcome such lacunae, care must be taken by the educational instates and monitoring agencies that only certified and experienced manpower is involved in such career and field of study related activites.
In a nutshell, it is a great policy for whole ecosystem of economy as various parts of economy offers various types of lucarative opportunities but only when the right students adopts right field of study and are guided in right direction to fulfil their career aspirations which will be lucarative, and statisfies the economic, personal and social needs also.
