Kindly give me suggestions on where I should be improving.
Issue:
To understand the most important characteristics of a society, one must study its major cities.
Response:
I partly agree with the given statement which states that in order to understand the most important characteristics of a society one must study it's major cities.
Yes, it is definitely true that the crux of the population are city dwellers and it can be safely assumed that new trends in fashion and market catch on much quicker in these cities. Analyzing these cities would therefore give us a significant insight on the important characteristics of a society.
However, analyzing these cities alone would only help us understand the behaviour of a single facet of a society since people living in rural and sub-urban areas often tend to have different lifestyles and would exhibit different characteristics in contrast to their city dwelling counterparts.
To illustrate the above let us look into the mentality of people in matters like voting. We would then find that dwellers in major cities have a more lethargic and carefree attitude towards the subject than people in other places since the results of elections don't affect them as much as the masses in poorer cities or villages.
Furthermore, people in major cities have access to a lot of information and have a lot of oppurtunites in areas like education and career than the rest of the population. This creates a disparity between the people living in major cities and the ones living in rural areas.
Studying only the major cities leaves us ignorant about the characteristics of other people outside these cities who actually have tendencies and behaviours that can be very much different than those in the major cities. To arrive at a fair judgement when analyzing a society, one needs to concentrate on the society as a whole rather a certain section alone. Therefore, limiting the study of characterisitics to major city dwellers alone can lead to the posibility of getting erroneous conclusions and one needs to broaden their study to the non-city dwellers as well as a society in its entirity encompases both of these types.
