Quote:
Claim: Even though young people often receive the advice to “follow your dreams,” more emphasis should be placed on picking worthy goals.
Reason: Many people’s dreams are inherently selfish.

Although the phrase "follow your dreams" has become hackneyed in modern society, it still makes sense in motivating people. There is a big debate regarding this phrase in most social circles, since some people argue that more attention should be paid on choosing proper goals. Man reason for this claim is that majority of people might be selfish in following their dreams. However, I totally disagree with this reasoning, since nature of the goal does not make sense, since goal achievement plays great role in fulfilling the psychological needs of a person.
First of all, people should follow their dreams, without any hesitation because for their own view their dreams are well placed and shrewdly selected goals. Since everyone has their own lifestyle, tastes, hobbies etc. for them their choice is the perfect one. We can criticize someone from distance but we are not living his or her life so we cannot evaluate his choices as he does for himself. For example, I would like to buy a home near tot he north pole and live there with my pet, alone. For someone this dream might seem ridiculous but this is what I want to do, and if I achieve this I will feel self fulfilled.
Secondly, there is not a rule that everyone should target dreams that are for everyone's good. It is true that the history will always remember the people that think more humanistic and unselfish, but this is also true that no one should border her or his freedom for others good if it is not or hardly achievable. For example, I can not just work on a vaccine in order to prevent coronavirus epidemy, since I do not have any competent skills and motivation for it
Finally, people should dream about thing that make them happier. Because if a person does things that make him happier he will never feel bored, tired or exhausted. Neither psychologically nor physically. Therefore, it does not matter however their goal is selfish or not people should follow their dreams.
In Conclusion, all the facts that mentioned above comes to the final idea; goals, however they are selfish or not, are dreams with deadlines. People should follow their dreams, without thinking their nature or not, since we have only one life and we do not have chance to waste it for others' favor.
