Claim: Governments must ensure that their major cities receive the financial support they need in order to thrive.
Reason: It is primarily in cities that a nation's cultural traditions are preserved and generated.
It is commonly believed that the main cities are the places where cultural asset of a country is produced and preserved, therefore, cities must be granted sufficient finances to prosper. However, I believe that this statement not true.
Most of the major cities of all countries are usually the most populated areas, as a number of people continuously migrate to cities for different purposes. A large population of cities has moved there in search of better employment opportunities to earn enough to support their families. So, major cities are also technologically much more advanced and are further making progress daily, thereby, becoming more and more modern in all aspects. Thus, big cities are not the place where cultural traditions and values are either generated or are preserved; rather the people living in cities are so busy in their fast lives that they even do not have time to celebrate some of their cultural events.
Although, it is a fact the in major cities several events and celebrations are held on some specific days which are important for a nation regarding its tradition and culture, but these events are just organized less often. Because it needs lot money, manpower and hard work to organize and conduct some cultural events on a large scale, so cultural and traditional celebrations are not observed more commonly in cities.
On the other hand, a look at history of several nations worldwide reveals that in reality rural areas have been the hub of generation and preservation of traditions as well as culture of a country. The life of people living in villages and suburbs is not usually as busy as compared to that of the city people. Hence, they spare more time to not only celebrate their traditions, but also teach their next generation about their history and culture. In this way, these traditions are even kept alive after many years of their origin.
In case of financial support of cities, it should be taken into account that government should ensure to provide its main cities with enough financial support as cities are the hub of economical and international affairs of country. The scientific, technological, economical, educational and social advancement in major cities is vital for a country to thrive and prosper. Nevertheless, as far as preservation of moral, cultural and traditional values of a country are concerned; the main focus must be to facilitate the rural areas financially to maintain the culture of the nation.
To sum up, it is the responsibility of a government to financially support the rural areas of a country to preserve and pass on the culture and traditions.
