Anation should require all of its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college.
The educational institutions are the pillars of our modern society. The kind of education one receives molds the personality and intellect of an individual. A person of sound mind is revered everywhere and imparts largely to the nation and the world as a whole. Educational institutions provide students with an eclectic range of subjects to study. Though I disagree with the statement that a nation should require all of its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college.
Students are provided with advanced courses on subjects that they choose in college. To understand these advanced topics, one must have a strong foundation. In order to build this strong foundation, students have to spend major portions of their school education time learning these basic concepts. If there were subjects in their high school curriculum which do not add to the knowledge base of the field of study they are going to pursue in college then it will make college education difficult for them. A student who aims to pursue their college education in Electronics Engineering should have a sound knowledge about semiconductors and analog Electronics from high school time itself. If this student is supposed to study huge texts of history then it will affect his or her chances of being a successful Electronics Engineer. Thus, only subjects pertaining to the courses one is going to pursue in college should be provided to the students to study. Students have to ready for being recruitment after college and thus these fundamentals play a major role in their lives. If at all students are supposed to study a variety of subjects in high school then the extra subjects should not be graded and should only for reading during a small amount of time of high school curriculum.
Students, if, are supposed to study the same national curriculum then it will include subjects of various fields such as History, Geography, Psychology, Computer Science, Mathematics and Science. This will lead to a large increase in the number of subjects to study from. Thus learning process will involve a large amount of time. This will have a negative effect on those students who aim to be sports persons, actors or models. They will face the time crunch in the worst possible way because they have to manage education along with their separate careers of say baseball, soccer or dancing. For instance, a high school student aims to be a professional dancer one day and own a dance company. He or she needs to practice for 8 hours per day. Aside from say, 6 hours of school and 4 hours of extra study to keep up with school. This will leave him or her with only 6 hours per day for other activities such as sleeping, meals and showers. This sucks out the part of recreation from such students and imposes too much stress often leading to many students either dropping out of high school or leaving their dream professions. These students must be provided with extra help and attention so that they can finish off their understanding of concepts and homework at school itself in order for them to maintain a balance.
As we aim to add to our nation when we are capable of it, education must be taken seriously. The kind of education can be chosen by us and thus should not be the same for all in school.
