In this question, every blank have a contrast meaning, staid accountant is a person whose life is dull he shares an apartment with a colourful musician is the right answer for blank (i)
A tight lipped divorcee picks up an garrulous (talkative) hitchhiker.
An introverted mathematician falls in love with gregarious (friendly) arriviste.

A scholar could be eminent, not a musician. A musician is creative in his process to create a painting or a song so he is colorful...

The answer should be colourful. A staid account means they are serious minded and lacking excitement, so their foil should be colourful.
