Considering this example or question is not easy but it is not more difficult than some of the questions I have come across on this platform here. In addition, there is to consider that this paragraph above seems to go in the perfect direction or order since there is no statement that goes vary or begins with a new theme from another sentence. In the first blank, there is a considerate theme that there is a perception of something being good or great. At this point, you will need to look for options and for me ‘plentitude’ seems the best one since it is about completeness or fulfilment and with something productive being discussed, it best suits the positivity of the city of Athens.
For the second option then you have to consider what this great city has to consider next. For example, if you are selecting greatness or something best for the city then the next sentence is likely either its greatness or a downgrading activity. The second option is all about the buildings copying the architecture of Athens or the talk gives a clear sense of it. If you go through the meanings of the options for the second blank, the word ‘emulated’ feels like the entire copying or adopting synonym.
In the final blank I think cede appears as the preferable and favourable choice for the answer. It is because this word clearly reflects or means to surrender the position or concede the downfall. And the sentence points in the same direction when you read it.
