Sum of the angles (in degrees) in a pentagon

A) Quantity A is greater.
B) Quantity B is greater.
C) The two quantities are equal.
D) The relationship cannot be determined from the information given.

Useful rule: the sum of the angles in an n-sided polygon = (n - 2)(180°)

A pentagon has 5 sides
So, the sum of the angles = (5 - 2)(180°)
= (3)(180°)
= 540°

We get:
Quantity A: 540°
Quantity B: 500°

Answer: A

Cheers,
Brent

the question does not state if its a regular pentagon. how can we be so sure if the sum is greater than 500 degrees?

The question doesn't mention which angles - interior or exterior!!
Can we assume it to be interior?
It's a tricky question in QC category where assumption or lack of info can change the answer.
Don't know what to do here.... Can anybody suggest?

Is nothing is stated about external angle or else, you should always think about INTERNAL angles.

If you talk about a triangle and nothing is stated I do think is fair to cast our assumption on its internal angles which the sum is 180°

Qty A--> Pentagon (internal) angles add up to 540. Kudos if you like this post

Draw out a pentagon and basically it's a triangle sitting on top of a square.

Degrees of a triangle + Degrees of a square

180 + 360 = 540 degrees.

Therefore answer is A
