Re: The line y=-8/7x is graphed on the rectangular coordinate axes. [#permalink]

Normally, y = mx + c is the equation of a line, but in this case it is y = (-8/7)x which means that the 'c' or the 'y-intercept' is 0. Which also means that this line passes through the origin with a slope of -8/7..

We can right away start by putting values of 'y' here,
y = 1 x = -7/8
y = 2 x = -14/8
...
Whatever you do, the x value stays negative, and in the diagram the X value is the OR and y value is OP, so OP must be greater
Thus, B is the answer

You are right.

Because in one version in the stem, the +1 was not mentioned, but yes in the solution.

I fixed the question

The y-intercept, or b, in this case is 1. That means the line crosses the
y-axis at 1. So the coordinates of point P are (0, 1). Now we have to
determine the coordinates of point R. We know the y-coordinate is 0,
so let’s stick that into the equation (the slope and the y-intercept are
constant; they don’t change).

y = mx + b

\(0=-\frac{8}{7x}+1\)

Solving

\(x=\frac{7}{8}
\)

So the coordinates of point R are (7/8 , 0). That means OR, in Quantity A, is equal to , and OP, in Quantity B, is equal to 1. The answer is (B).

Based on this logis, then x should be 8/7 not 7/8, that means the correct answer is A and not B.

It is not \(y=-\frac{8}{7x}\) BUT \(-\frac{8}{7}\) x

Sometimes latex code is messy I know

Ahhh... I now see why I failed the question. Thanks.
