It is basically a problem that asks us the number of items in an evenly spaced set where the increment is 2, the first number is 1 and the last number is N, not counting the last number. The answer to that is given by the formula \(\frac{(Last-First)}{Increment}+1\) for including both 1 and N, the last number. But if you want to exclude the last number, then the formula becomes \(\frac{(Last-First)}{Increment}\), and in this case it would be \(\frac{N-1}{2 }\). Thus Quantity B contains the formula to answer Quantity A. So both are equal.
