Sophia's velocity : 48 km/h
hours driven by Peter: x
hours driven by Sophia: 5
Due to the fact that Sofia caught up with Peter at the same distance, we can set up the following euation:
48*5 = 40*x
with x= 6. Thus, we can calculate the distance that Sophia would have traveled if she had spent the same time that Peter spent travelling. It can be done by multiplying her velocity by the time Peter spent: 6*48 = 288.

As peter and Sophia met thus we can solve it by suing relative speed.
as Sophia need to drive for 5 hours to meet peter thus we can say after 5 hrs they both met.
Time = distance between two peter and Sophia / speed of Sophia - speed of peter
5 = 40 * (h-5) / 8
40 * (h-5) is distance between two peter and Sophia, D= S*T , S=40 by which peter is travelling , Time for which peter travel alone at starting is (h-5)
h= 6 hours
distance Sophia could drive in h hours at her current speed = 6 *48 =288
as Sophia need to drive for 5 hours to meet peter thus we can say after 5 hrs they both met.
