In 2003, there are 28 days in February and there are 365 days in the year. In 2004, there are 29 days in February and there are 366 days in the year. If the date March 11, 2003 is a Tuesday, then which one of the following would the date March 11, 2004 be?
For all GRE word problems, read carefully and focus only on the relevant information. The test makers do provide information that is not relevant to the sought value, such as the number of days in 2003 in this problem.
Will the number of days in the non-leap year month of February 2003 matter if we are counting the days beginning March 11, 2003? No!
So, all we need to do is divide the total number of days by the number of days in the repeating interval and count out any remaining days with the remainder if present.
In this case we know that every 7th day will be a Tuesday, so we can divide the 366 days from March 11, 2003 to March 11, 2004 by 7.
366 ÷ 7 = 52 with remainder = 2. Since, every 7th day is a Tuesday, we can count two days past that to determine that March 11, 2004 will be a Thursday. Select Choice D.
