An alternate way to consider this problem is to recognize that the answer choices are all just numbers, which means that you will be able to manipulate the equations so that all are using the same variable, and then cancel them out.
If we multiply the left equation by x on both sides, we get:
w = 2/3 x
If we multiply the right equation by y on both sides, we get:
w = 8/15 y
The right sides of each equation must be equal to each other, as they are equal to w:
2/3 x = 8/15 y
We can now solve for x in terms of y:
x = 3/2 * 8/15 y
x = 4/5 y
And substitute:
(x+y)/y
(4/5 y + y)/y
(9/5 y)/y
9/5
