A. 16
B. 20
C. 28
D. 32
E. 44

Let x = Murray's PRESENT age

In 12 years, Murray will be 4 times as old as he is now
In 12 years, Murray's age = x + 12
So we can write: x + 12 = 4x
Solve to get: x = 4
So Murray is presently 4 years old

The number of years until Murray is 8 times as old as he is now?
(8)(4) = 32
So the question is really asking us,"How many years will it take until Murray is 32 years old?"

32 - 4 = 28

Answer: C

Re: In 12 years, Murray will be 4 times as old as he is now. The [#permalink]
Let M = Murray’s age now
So, M+12 = Murray’s age in 12 years
Therefore, 4M = M+12
=> 3M = 12
=> M = 4
The number of years until Murray is 8 times as old as he is now = 8*4 = 32
Thus in 32 - 4 = 28 Years
