Let’s denote number of pea, tomato and spinach plants as p, t and s accordingly.
We get:
p:t = 2:3 equivalent to 10:15
p:s = 5:6 equivalent to 10:12
Or
p:t:s = 10:15:12
From above we get
t:s = 15:12
Spinach is sown in multiples of 18 and tomatoes are sown in multiples of 12.
Let’s test the numbers from the lowest to greatest offered here:
(A) If s -= 36, it is multiple of 18. Then t = 3*15= 45 not a multiple of 12. So, the answer is not A.
(B) If s -= 72, it is multiple of 18. Then t = 6*15 = 80 not a multiple of 12. So, the answer is not B.
(C) If s = 120, it is not a multiple of 18. So, the answer is not C.
(D) If s -= 144. It is multiple of 18. Then t = 12*15 = 180. It IS a multiple of 12 not an integer. It seems that we have our answer!
(E) Test it is to make sure D is correct. If s = 180. It is multiple of 18. Then t = 15*15 = 225 which is not a multiple of 12.
The answer is D
