If the perimeter of a rectangle is 24 and the length is twice the width, what is the length of the rectangle?

A. 4

B. 5

C. 6

D. 8

E. 12

Let x = the width of the rectangle
So 2x = the length of the rectangle (since the length is twice the width)

The perimeter of a rectangle is 24
We can write: x + 2x + x + 2x = 24
Simplify: 6x = 24
Solve: x = 4
This tells the rectangle has width x = 4

What is the length of the rectangle?
Since the length is twice the width, the rectangle has length 8

Answer: D
