*Each person surveyed indicated one of the four methods as his or her preferred method to obtain news.
What fraction of the people in the age-group 20 to 49 indicated newspaper or the Internet as their preferred method to obtain news?
Which of the following is closest to the percent of all the people survey who indicated the Internet as their preferred method to obtain news?
A. 18.8%
B. 21.7%
C. 23.0%
D. 33.3%
E. 46.0%
For the age-group 50 and older, the number of people who indicated the Internet as their preferred method to obtain news is approximately what percent less than the number of people who indicated radio?
A. 12%
B. 27%
C. 36%
D. 45%
E. 50%
1. Here,
For the first statementwe have
Newspaper as preferred method is 10% of total 240 i.e = 24
Internet as preferred method is 35% of total 240 = 84
Therefore total newspaper or internet as preffered method = 24 + 84 =108
Therefore fraction =\(\frac{108}{240}\) = \(\frac{9}{20}\)
2. Here,
For 2nd statementfor the age group 20 to 49
35% preferred internet i.e = 84 people
For the age group 50 and older
11% preferred internet i.e = 33 people
Therefore total people preferred internet = 117 people.
Percentage of the total people surveyed = \(\frac{117}{540} * 100\)= 21.6667 = 21.7%
3. Here
For statement 3For the age group of 50 and older no. of people preferred internet is = 11% of 300 = 33 people
For the age group of 50 and older no. of people preferred radio is = 15% of 300 = 45 people
Therefore the number of people who indicated the Internet is less than the number of people who indicated radio is = \(\frac{(45- 33)}{45} * 100\)
= 26.667 nearly equals to 27%
