In what year did the value of fruit exports decrease by the highest pe [#permalink]
3
The rationale for 2011 as the answer is something that needs to be clarified. I believe that 2008, with 33% decrease, is the answer. Perhaps I am mistaken.

By first inspection of the line graph for fruits, only years 2006 and 2008 are eligible answers. Now, comparing the figure for 2005 and 2006

(New - Original) ÷ Original

(10 - 14) ÷ 14 = 28.57%

And that of 2007 and 2008

(8 - 12) ÷ 14 = 33.33%

If you calculate for 2011, you have

(7 - 8.5) ÷ 8.5 = 17.64% approximate decrease, which is not as high a decrease as the 33% for 2008, except I am mistaken.

I also got C 33% while
D was around 17.6%

Why is it D?

Quote:
(D) Scan along the fruit curve for years in which the value of exports decreased greatly from the year before. In 2006 and 2008, fruit exports dropped significantly—by two boxes, or $4 million—from the year before. In 2008, this $4 million decrease represented a larger percent change, because the change occurred from a lower starting value. Specifically, in 2008 the decrease was 4/12=1/3=33.3 % from the year before, while in 2006 the decrease was 4/14 =28.6% from the year before.

So it's 2008 should be (C) not (D) 2011 right??

For me the answer should be C

If you scan the fruit line graph and see all the % decrease from the previous year (I counted all of them) C is the greatest or highest with a decrease in 2008 from 2007

12-8/12=0.33333

My answer is C and NOT D
