Dealing with highly technical passages is an ugly beast
The origin of the energy input to the Crab Nebula had been a puzzle that had long defied attempts at a solution.
Why crab nebula eventually has its own energy? and what is the source of this energy ?? its origin is UNCLEAR and for a long time was difficult to find a clear and definitive explanation
Among the various possibilities considered, John Archibald Wheeler at Princeton in 1966 and Franco Pacini at Cornell in 1967 had independently put forward the apparently far-fetched idea that a rotating neutron star might be the energy source.
TWo scientists, independently from one another, gave a far-fetched so a not so clear, and somehow forced explanation of this energy. The neutrons and their rotation or spinning, rotating is the source of the energy
Now, after the fact, it is possible to use the observations of the Crab Nebula and its pulsar (NP0531) to invert the problem and show that if the pulsar is a rotating star, it must have the mass and radius of a neutron star.
The solution could be found by looking at the problem on the contrary in its reverse aspect. IF the nebula is a rotating star, then it is a neutron star and if it is a neutron star must have neutrons, which spinning, and so we do know the source of energy
In other words, even without the theory developed over the past 40 years, it is possible to assert that stars of approximately one solar mass and radii on the order of 10 kilometers must exist since the pulsar in the Crab Nebula is such a star.
To give another example: IF we do know X MAYBE we do know the value of Y, but not for sure. BUT if we do know the value of Y we do know FOR SURE that the value of X
Another example.
if you perform a blood check, there is a value called D which is a sign of thrombosis in your legs.
NOW, IF the value is above a threshold you CAN have a thrombosis (or blood clog) but you do not know for sure. The causes of the high value could be different.
However, IF the value is BELOW a certain threshold you know FOR SURE that you will not have a thrombosis starting from your legs.
