To whom it may concern:
It gives me immense pleasure in recommending ..... for the graduate program at your esteemed university. Mr. .... is currently
engaged as a System Software R&D engineer at Hewlett Packard. He completed his 4-year Bachelor’s program (B. E. Tel. E) at the
Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering of Jadavpur University in Kolkata, India in 2012. He has been my student in one theory course on Control Engineering and one laboratory course on Digital Control.
He has always been the most attentive and regular student in my class. I was very much impressed by his eagerness to know more and innovative ideas to solve problems. No wonder, he was such brilliant during tests that I gave him ‘S’ (highest grade: 90
-100%) in both of my theoretical and practical course exams.
I have known him since the beginning of 2009. In the mid of 2010, he approached me to work on Artificial Intelligence & Robotics based on evolutionary computation algorithms & fuzzy logic. Mr. .... seemed extremely interested in the topic. He proposed some
interesting modifications in the mutation and crossover strategies of Genetic Algorithm a long with a novel neighborhood structure. We then used this modified algorithm on some bio-informatics problems like evolving ligand structures for drug designing by minimizing the interaction energy of the ligands with the protein target. The results were promising in comparison to
the existing algorithms.
The algorithm has also been successfully applied on combinatorial problems like Travelling Salesman Problems and Gene-ordering. ....clearly explained to me the probable reasons behind the superior performance of his modified Genetic Algorithm. At the same time, Mr. .... also developed an improved version of Particle Swarm Optimization technique hybridized with Genetic Algorithm
to use it in linear phase FIR filter design. He also used PSO in multi-objective problems like multi-robot cooperative box-pushing problem. His research has led to the following papers:
1. Linear Phase Low Pass FIR Filter Design Using Genetic Particle Swarm Optimization with Dynamically Varying Neighborhood Technique;
IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence (WCCI 2012),Brisbane, Australia.
2. Multi-robot Cooperative Box-pushing problem using Multi-objective Particle Swarm Optimization Technique; IEEE 2nd World Congress on Information and Communication Technologies (WICT 2012), Trivandpuram, India.
3. An Evolutionary Approach to Drug-Design Using a Novel Neighbour hood Based Genetic Algorithm (communicated in Information Sciences-Elsevier journal).
In the past 26 years, I have taught and supervised over 5000 undergraduate, masters and doctoral students at Jadavpur University and also at University of Missouri at St. Louis and I shall certainly place Mr. .... among the top most exceptional 10% of them.
Besides taking the load of his regular course-work and maintaining an excellent grade throughout all the semester examinations, he finds time to nourish his flair for scientific research. Through numerous interactions with him both inside and outside the class, especially while supervising his projects, I noticed that he is exceptionally gifted in mathematics.
He has good communication skills, thorough subject knowledge and thought clarity evident from his various presentations and conference talks. In my view, Mr. ....compares favorably with the best among my students across India. He has shown the motivation, intelligence, preserving nature and analytical aptitude for graduate study and research. Assigned a problem, he can
swiftly come up with noticeable research outputs by bothering his supervisors the least. He is extremely co-operative and possesses the capacity to contribute positively while working as a part of a team. Indeed, these attributes particularly distinguish his character, study and emerging research achievements. His research interests primarily focus on Artificial Intelligence &
Robotics, Bio-informatics, Image Processing, Machine Learning, CAD, Embedded Systems and Networks.
Despite being an undergraduate student, he has already proved to be a valuable research assistant for me. There are not many students I have met who have made so much work and achieved such a success in their undergraduate studies. I am sure he will make an
outstanding graduate student. He holds immense promise to be a distinguished researcher and university professor in near future. I recommend him in the strongest terms for admission to the graduate program at your university with financial aid.
