Vocabulary is a pain for most test takers and it applies all the more to GRE aspirants. The level of vocabulary is skyrocketing in such tests. Moreover, mentally we have a limited capacity to learn so many words in such little time. In such a dire scenario, the best approach is to learn vocabulary through myriad of sources. Hypothetically, if you only choose to write words in a notebook all the time, your brain gets exhausted as this process is nothing but mundane(yet extremely fruitful). At such a time, books such as Word Power Made Easy come as a breather for your enervated brain cells. It uses a technique called root word technique where you learn one root and basis that you get to know 5-6 words. So in no time you add words in chunks to your vocab list with stupendous retention as the root words stick to your memory.
For instance “ambi” means “two”. Now you can understand why “ambiguous” means vague (an ambiguous answer doesn’t clearly tell a yes or a no, it’s in the middle) and why “ambidextrous” means one who can write with both hands (dexterous means skillful)
For all those out there wishing to improve their vocabulary, just go for it. It is always advisable to use a hard copy of the book because every session has exercises that can be done in pencil so as to ensure revision and retention. However, at this time go ahead with the soft copy too!
