The GRE scoring algorithm is anomalous, unlike other tests. The three types of questions and it's difficulty range:
1) Easy --> 1
2) Medium->2,3
3) Hard--> 4,5
If you happen to see the diagnostic result table, each question will have corresponding level(1,2,3,4,5), the mean(average) value for all the 20 questions determine the difficulty level of section. So, for the first section of both quants and verbal, it will be a medium level, which is the mean difficulty value of all the questions will be between 2 to 3. If the next section which is changed depend upon how you perform in the first section will have similar pattern. If it is hard the mean value will be 4 to 5, if it is easy it will be 1 to 2. So you will encounter all the type of questions in a section but the most occurring one will determine the difficulty level if it is following the above logic.
And most important and crucial thing to note in GRE is, the marks which you score in the first section will determine the difficulty level of next section. If you score between 0-6 in the first section, second section will be easy, but at the cost of 4 marks. If you score between 7-13 in the first section, the next section will again be medium with bonus of 2-3 marks, If you score more than 13 in the first section, the next section will be hard overall with the bonus of 4-5 marks.
Seems magical right!!!
Search GRE scoring algorithm in youtube, the channel named "Greg Mat" will explain clearly. Sorry couldn't post link due to restrictions. Give kudoos if you like the answer.
