Why is sycophantic the answer? If all of a sudden it is ok to criticize her I am not sure what being sycophantic has to do with the sentence

I think because in this new era it is ok to criticize her, while in the early no criticize but more of sycophantic, which is oppose to criticize - since we have the shift "while"
