Explanation

The sensation produced by kidney stones is compared to the “agony of childbirth,” so you know you’re looking for a word that means “painful.” Painstaking, however, means “done with great care,” and tortuous means “full of twists and turns.” Both excruciating and torturous correctly describe terrible pain.

Hence options ecruciating, torturous are best fit!

This is interesting. I confused between "tortuous" and "torturous". The first term means a way with a lot of curves and difficulties, it is sinuous. On the other hand, torturous means full of pain. This second term is the correct.

The sentence says that kidney stones are painful and often compared to the agony of childbirth. Therefore we're looking for words that mean painful.

The only two words that work here are excruciating and torturous. Painstaking and tortuous may seem like valid options, but they both have different meanings and do not fit into the sentence at all.

Thus, we choose E, F
