We know from the word though that the missing word in the first sentence must in some way contrast with the fact that women are unlikely to have X-linked disorders; check the answers and see if there is a word that makes sense, given this. Inclined to will not work, because there is no contradiction between the idea that women are not inclined to genetic disorders and the fact that they are not susceptible to X-linked conditions. Intransigent means uncompromising or inflexible and generally describes someone's attitude; it is hard to see what being uncompromising towards a disease means, or how it has anything to do with one's susceptibility - eliminate it. The correct answer is impervious to (invulnerable or incapable of being injured).
To fill in the second blank, notice that we are told that women have a normal gene that produces clotting factors. Even if you don't know exactly what clotting factors are, you can almost certainly deduce that they make blood clot (and therefore prevent life-threatening bleeds). Engender is nearly the opposite of what we want; it means to produce or cause. To mollify means to soften or to mitigate; it is a better answer, since it means something like to make less severe, but it is more often used in the context of feelings rather than physical injuries. To forestall is the better option; it means to prevent or to anticipate.
