Given xy = yz
Therefore the two triangles in the question have the same base. Also they have the same height which is the perpendicular dropped from point w to the line xz
Hence they have the same area

Two triangle have same base and height. Hence they are equal.

Look at the attached figure..
Draw a perpendicular from W to line XZ meeting at A
The area of XWY = \(\frac{1}{2}*XY*AW\)
The area of YWZ = \(\frac{1}{2}*ZY*AW\)... now ZY=AW...
Therefore, the area of YWZ = \(\frac{1}{2}*ZY*AW\)=\(\frac{1}{2}*XY*AW\)=area of XWY
