The Most Overlooked Part of Graduate School Admissions Could Sink Your Application! The single most frequent (and biggest) mistake that I see graduate school applicants make is not contacting potential advisors. In fact, I know from personal experience that when you don't do this, it can harm your application. You see, when I first applied to graduate school many years ago, I assumed that the process was entirely about my GRE, GPA, Personal Statement, and Letters of Rec. I optimistically sent out my applications to a dozen schools and only got into one. Fast forward to the next year, and with his advice about contacting potential advisors (and some other tips) I got into the top 5 programs in my field, along with every school I applied to. It made a difference. A HUGE difference. In this video, we explore why contacting advisors is so important, how to go about doing it, and some important things to keep in mind as you do so.
