Rate of filling = 12 gallons per minute
Rate of emptying:
Water in the pool = 5760 * 2/4 = 4,320 gallons
Time taken to empty = 9 * 60 = 540 minutes
--> Rate = 4320/540 = 8 gallons per minute
If the pool is half-full, the remaining work is 5760/2 = 2,880 gallons
Combined rate = 12 - 8 = 4 gallons per minute
--> Time taken = 720 minutes or 720/60 = 12 hours
Rate of filling = 12 gallons per minute
