argument task-Arctic deer live on islands in Canada's arctic regions.(from KMF)
The author argues that the decreasing number of the population of arctic deer is leaded by the deer is nor able to follow age-old migration patterns across the frozen area because the trend of the global warming. To make this conclusion, the arguer claims that because the decline of the population of the deer is coincident with the recent global warming trends, the reason for the decreasing number of the deer is result of they cannot move over the sea. However, this logic does not constitute the argument in favor of its conclusion, and fails to provide the convincing support to make the argument be sound and invulnerable.
For the first place, the arguer makes an assumption that Canada’s arctic regions must be affected by the trends of global warming so that the areas are not cold enough for arctic deer to travel over the ice. However, it is not always the case. Even though it is true that the trend of the global temperature is increasing, it does not mean that the temperature of the arctic regions of Canada are also increasing. The temperature in arctic region of Canada could decrease instead. If it is the case, the decrease on the population of arctic deer should not because they cannot follow their age-old migration patterns across the frozen sea.
For the second place, even though author may be true about the assumption that the temperature of Canada’s arctic region is also increasing, author probably has overlooked other conditions except the influence of the temperature that would also affect the population of arctic deer. For example, Due to the increase of the temperature, even though the temperature is still low enough to support the travel of the deer, but most of the food the deer relies on have dead out so that arctic deer does not have enough food to support their population. As a result, the population of the deer is decreasing.
In a nutshell, from the argument of the arguer, we cannot make a conclusion that the global warming makes the deer fail to follow their age-old migration pattern. In order to support his conclusion, the author should provide evidence about the trend of temperature of Canada’s arctic regions. Further, the author needs to prove that the other conditions that also influences the population of the deer are consistent.
