We have 3 employees and 2 offices. We need to find the number of ways to assign each of the 3 employees to one of the 2 offices, with the possibility that an office can be empty.
Each of the 3 employees can be assigned to either Office 1 or Office 2 independently. Therefore, for each employee, there are 2 choices (Office 1 or Office 2).
Hence, the total number of ways to assign 3 employees to 2 offices is --> 2*2*2 = 8
