Starting with Blank (ii), let’s say that his critiques “match” the accepted views. In that case, his film criticisms are “typical” reviews, because he goes along with whatever everyone else says. But what if for Blank (ii) we say his critiques “go against” the accepted views? In that case, his reviews are “unusual.” Write down both pairs: “typical… match” and “unusual… go against.” Now look at the answer choices for the first blank. Impartial doesn’t match either “typical” or “unusual,” so cross off (A). Unconventional matches “unusual”; put a check next to (B) and the small letters (d), (e) and (f) to go with (B). Now compare the words for the second blank with the other half of this pair, “go against.” Distill and conform to can be eliminated, but defy matches the second word in the correct pair of predicted answers. For this kind of Text Completion only, once you see two check marks, you can safely choose them both. The correct answers are (B) and (F).
