Length of longer wire = 1m = 100cm
Without joints, each wire would be \(\frac{100}{5} = 20\)cm long
|---1---(O)---2---(O)---3---(O)---4---(O)---5---|
We will have 4 overlapping of 4cm each = 4(4) = 16cm
i.e. 16cm will be divided equally into 5 parts
So, each smaller wire is \(\frac{16}{5} = 3.2\)cm longer
Length of each small wire = 20 + 3.2 = 23.2cm
Hence, option C

Draw a figure showing overlapping, otherwise, it will be tough to visualize.
Let's say, each of the wire lengths is X cm.
For the left-most and the right-most wires, there is 1 overlap for each. So, non overlapped length for these will be X-4 cm
For other wires, there are 2 overlaps for each. So, the non-overlapped length for these will be X-8 cm
If you look at the figure, you will see that,
X-4 + 4 + X-8 + 4 + X-8 + 4 + X-8 + 4 + X-4 = 100
X= 23.2
