Golden Rule Simplify Across HELP

OK so rolling through Manhattan's GRE Prep INTERACT course. In their lesson on Simplify Across using Golden Rule, I get the idea but not why when you get an answer it means A B C or D.
Ex.
x is greater than or equal to 3
A: X^3 +4X -9
B: X^3 -6X +18
I know you get to eventually x = 2.7, which is what the lesson gets to, but then I dont get why that then means its A is the answer. And also why I would use this instead of just substituting numbers that applies to the given.
Same for this
0<x<2
A: -4X^2+9
B: (-7X^2 -3)/3
Again I get how we get to x^2 and 6, so x= somewhere between 2-3, but then why does that mean A is the answer? Again why would I use this instead of just plugging in numbers?
Appreciate any help!
