EXPLANATION QUESTIONS #3

The correct answer is "There wasn't a turn nor a twist in it, and I know by actual measurement that it wasn't sixty feet long."

This sentence most accurately illustrates the Idiot's lack of understanding by demonstrating the way that he approaches proverbs literally, rather than figuratively, as they are meant to be analyzed. By referring to a specific lane and discussing the measurements in contrast to the information in the proverb, the Idiot makes it clear that he judges the accuracy of these statements on their literal details rather than their deeper potential meaning.

EXPLANATION QUESTIONS #4

$A$ and $B$ are correct. Choices " $A$ " and " B " both correctly reflect the author's apparent treatment of people who tend to misunderstand popular phrases. By calling the main character an 'idiot', the author clearly mocks these types of people, indicating a derisive attitude. Also, by identifying this character as an imbecile by assigning him the 'name' of Idiot rather than simply stating outright that he is idiotic, this passage takes on a satirical quality.
" C " is also a likely option; though the author is clearly insulting this character, the issues being discussed do not cross over into anything that is too serious or political.
