mentally try digits from 0 to 9 for the units’ digit of \(k^2\) to be 9, only 3 and 7 works
mentally try digits 3 and 7 for the units’ digit of \((k+1)^2\) to be 6, only 3 works
calculate what is the units’ digit of \((k + 2)^2\), when k=3
the units’ digit of \((3 + 2)^2\) is 5
Answer is C
