Hello everyone,
First off, I'm not proficient in writing essays. Kindly rate my essay on a scale of 0 to 6. I urge you to point out my mistakes and all possible improvements. Thank you in advance.
Issue essay:
A nation should require all of its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the recommendation and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, describe specific circumstances in which adopting the recommendation would or would not be advantageous and explain how these examples shape your position.
My Response:
I believe that A nation should not require all of its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college. A student must be given the opportunity to explore all the curriculum options, which encourages him/her to pursue the course of his/her choice and will. By providing this opportunity, A student will be able to make independent decisions and develop passion in a particular field of study. When the same national curriculum is imposed, A student is forced to study a subject which he/she may feels tough and will be inclined to score lower grades.
For example, In several countries, where same curriculum is taught nationwide, students find it difficult to get through a particular subject which they might not like or they find it difficult. Not all students have the same capability to perform equally in all subjects, which translates to a race between a hare and a tortoise. Students can perform better when they are provided with an option to choose a subject of their choice and focus on that specific subject and score better grades with relative ease.
Additionally, Students find it difficult to opt for a major course for study for their college after completion of schooling. Due to the lack of independence in schooling, students are made to study the curriculum in a technical way. Many students study the prescribed curriculum methodically without having to grasp the concept. Only when a student is able to study a subject of his/her choice, he/she will be able to find where his/her passion lies which makes it easy for the individual for opting an major course for college.
Furthermore, In countries, where students are given independence in preparing a curriculum to suit their needs, students are seen to be faring well in their own subject choice. By giving freedom to a student earlier on, A student is able to understand his strengths and weaknesses. He/she can focus on developing this strengths and can perform better in both school and college.
In conclusion, Nation should not require students to study the same curriculum and students must be given the opportunity to study an course of their choice. Students are benefited from constructing their own curriculum as observed from the aforementioned instances.
Argument Essay:
The following is a memorandum from the business manager of a television station.
"Over the past year, our late-night news program has devoted increased time to national news and less time to weather and local news. During this period, most of the complaints received from viewers were concerned with our station's coverage of weather and local news. In addition, local businesses that used to advertise during our late-night news program have canceled their advertising contracts with us. Therefore, in order to attract more viewers to our news programs and to avoid losing any further advertising revenues, we should expand our coverage of weather and local news on all our news programs."
Write a response in which you examine the stated and/or unstated assumptions of the argument. Be sure to explain how the argument depends on these assumptions and what the implications are for the argument if the assumptions prove unwarranted.
My Response:
The business managaer of the television stations claims that the dissatisfaction of the viewers and the decrease in advertising revenues is due to the change in the schedule for the broadcast of local and weather news. The reason behind the claim is the increased amount of viewer complaints and decreased advertising revenues after the schedule change was implemented.
First of all, The author assumes that the change of schedule is the only reason for the viewer complaints and losing advertising contracts. There might be other factors that might be causing frustration among the viewers and advertising companies to cancel their contracts. To solve this problem, More focus cam be directed towards the details of the complaints received from the viewer. Advertising companies which cancelled their contracts can be approached to acquire reason behind their cancellation.
Furthermore, The change in schedule and problems that followed are assumed to be not coincidental. The viewer complaints and loss in advertising may have been a coincidence. For example, Viewers in the vicinity could have been complaining about another programs being telecasted in that television station. Advertising companies would have been in loss and were forced to cancel their contracts. Detailed enquiry and study must be conducted to conclude whether these problems are truly because of change in schedule.
Additionally, An assumption is made that attraction of viewers and advertising revenues are majorly due to local and weather news. Viewers may be attracted to several other content previously telecasted on this television station which might've ended and Advertising companies may have changed their advertisements patterns which led to cancellation of contracts.
In conclusion, The above argument fails to hold true due to the aforementioned flaws in assumptions. The problems faced by the television station and the change of schedule may have been totally unrelated and reverting schedule may not fix the issues faced.
