Modern era is increasingly relying on advanced technologies to solve many problems. Technology has been a great influence to our lives. While a technological development made our lives easier and simpler, it brought several negative impacts on our lives, like the ability to do simple tasks escapes most people, more people are depended on computers and other technologies for everyday existence. However, the ability for humans to think independently will not deteriorate due to growing reliance on technology. In my opinion, there are many reasons to support this view point.
Nowadays, we choose to send a text message instead of a letter, or a call instead of a face-to-face discussion because it is easier. We have reached at that stage in life where instant communication is the thing. Nevertheless, the communication sector has been positively affected in numerous ways. For example, due to Internet, many businesses are able to reach a wide range of audience that allows them to market their products more effortlessly. Along with the usage of cell phones, businesses are able to get in touch with their employees anywhere anytime. They can even conduct online conferences to tackle with urgent problems.
On the plus side, consider the engineers who are responsible for building a new technology. Engineers do utilize the technology to a certain extent, but they also rely on their own thinking abilities to solve a problem. For instance, a developer relies on a programming platform to build apps, but, in the end, no software can ever replace the engineers in solving problems such as improving customer experience etc. They have to think by themselves to develop more efficient algorithms.
Alternatively, the concern for humans deteriorating their thinking is more valid for the people who do not have the opportunities to think creatively and differently due to advancement in technology. One clear example is Television. Children these days prefer to watch TV over other extra-curricular activities. TV brings countless hours of amusement to people. People prefer to watch news than to read a newspaper. A newspaper can be read and absorbed at one’s own pace and has ability to go into much greater depth than television. For those who rely on TV or similar technologies to solve the problems in their daily life, they will end up losing the abilities to develop more creative solutions through their own thinking. Their abilities to think for themselves are likely to decline as the technologies have deprived them of the opportunities to think.
In conclusion, technology if used in a wise manner can be benefited to people and makes them less dependable. Technology is used world-wide due to its ease, but that doesn’t mean we are becoming too reliant on it.
