TL;DR – our program has availability for a few GRE mentees, and our team is looking for volunteer GRE mentors!
Who we are:
Grad Mentors is a 501(c)(3) that is dedicated to providing applicants to our programs cost-free resources and support in their pursuit of higher education, specifically around studying for the GMAT and GRE entrance exams. While we do our best to help all applicants, our primary mission is to serve those students who are unable to access traditional paid support and resources due to financial or situational limitations.
Volunteering with us:
Our mentorship program is the core of what we do. We currently have openings for mentees. Volunteer mentors who join will work with our management team to support applicants accepted to our program on a one-to-one basis. Mentors get matched with one or multiple mentees at a time depending on their availability, and work with their mentees from the start of their study journey to the conclusion to help them succeed on their exam. Many of our mentors have enjoyed the process of working with our mentees, who come from a wide variety of experiences and backgrounds.
In addition to new mentors, we are looking for two volunteers to join our management team. The roles we are recruiting for are Head of GMAT and Head of GRE. These roles will focus on developing strategies to shape and grow the GMAT/GRE programs. If you are looking to gain valuable and marketable management/leadership experience, especially in a non-profit/startup environment, these roles are perfect for you!
How can I apply?
You can apply by going to our website (gradmentors . org) and clicking “Join Our Team” at the top!
Why you should join:
There are a number of reasons, but here are a few:
You get to directly help in-need students from around the globe achieve their dreams of higher education
We are an entirely virtual organization that is also flexible around your availability; we understand that sometimes life gets busy, in which case our team will work with you to manage your workload
For any mentors interested in going above and beyond, there are other ways you can get involved with our organization (creating resources, being on our podcasts, etc.)
FAQ:
Here are a couple of common questions we get from prospective mentors:
What are the requirements to become a mentor?
Our requirements are not set in stone, and we encourage anyone who is interested to apply!
How would I work with my mentees? What does a typical relationship look like?
We set our mentors/mentees up for an initial touch-base via email. We then will leave the mentor/mentee match to work together to determine how frequently they would like to meet, and what sort of support they are looking for. Typically, this takes form in a Skype or phone call once every week or two weeks between the mentor and mentee, going over test-taking advice, specific questions, or anything else. From there, we will check in with our mentor/mentee pair on a biweekly basis to ensure everything is going smoothly, until the mentee no longer needs our support.
One thing to note is that our mentors are NOT expected to be tutors! Grad Mentors sets the expectation that as a mentor, you are not a tutor, but rather a mentor who offers holistic advice on how to succeed on the test. This may involve answering specific GMAT/GRE questions every now and then, but by and large our mentees are more interested in the pathway to how you achieved success on your exam.
What is the weekly commitment in terms of hours?
Volunteering as a mentor could take up an hour every week or couple of weeks per mentee. The number of mentees you work with at one time is at your discretion; we will work with you to understand what is best for your particular situation.
Thanks everyone for the support – if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us directly via email @ support@gradmentors . org
