I'm preparing for the gre using a variety of different study materials. One of which is the Princeton review 1,027 GRE practice questions (5th edition). On page 281 there's a question that ask:
"for which of the following values of x is (x^2)/4 + (x/2) - (4) between 0 and 4?
The answer choices are: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
I worked it out and found that E is the only answer for which the equation equals a value in between 0 and 4. The text states that x=5 is also correct for some reason. Even in the explanation text it states that it is correct because the answer it produces is "close to 5". It yields 4.75 to be exact. How is this correct? The question asks for values of x that result in answers between 0 and 4.
