(A) 1/12
(B) 5/36
(C) 5/21
(D) 7/36
(E) 7/21
For this question it might be useful to assign a "nice" value to the area of the land being distributed among the children.
Let's say there's
36 acres of land.
The older son inherits 1/4 of the land and the oldest daughter inherits 1/3 1/4 of
36 = 9, so the older son inherits 9 acres of land
1/3 of
36 = 12, so the oldest daughter inherits 12 acres of land
So the area of the land remaining =
36 - 9 - 12 =
15 acres
The three remaining children equally share the remaining land. So the three remaining children are equally sharing the remaining
15 acres
This means each of those remaining children receives 5 acres
What fraction of the land does the younger son inherit? The younger son receives 5 acres out of the original
36 acres
Fraction = 5/
36Answer: B
