usually, this problem, if they are approached step by step, sentence by sentence, are quite simple and straightforward.
Students tend to set up a double matrix to keep things clean and efficient. Nothing wrong with that, but there is no necessity.
Notice also that the fraction are always a multiple of 5 so is best, in this case, to work with whole numbers
1) Two-fifth of the cars manufactured by a company are defective.
2/5 of 100=40 defective
So 60 are NOT defective
2) Three-fifth of the defective cars and one-twentieth of the non-defective cars are left-hand-drive.
3/5 of 40= 24 are defective and LH
So 16 are NON defective and RH
1/20 of 60= 3 NON defective and LH
So 57 are NON defective and RH
3) If all the left-hand-drive cars are only exported by the company and every car manufactured is either left-hand-drive or right-hand drive, then what fraction of exported left hand cars are defective?
The total of LH are 24+3=27
we do need those among 27 that are ONLY defective so they are 24
24/27 is the answer
