Let's do a bit of factoring...
\(2^{10}-2^9=2^9(2^1-1)=2^9(2-1)=2^9\)
\(2^{8}-2^7=2^7(2^1-1)=2^7(2-1)=2^7\)
So, \((2^{10} - 2^9 )(2^8 - 2^7 ) = (2^9)(2^7) = 2^{16}\)
