You've done this before, right? You were 17, looking to get into your dream college, and your school's college counselor told you to "be yourself, have a great hook, show some personality, talk about your passion, blah, blah, blah..." Your graduate school application requires a Personal Statement, so you think, "I'll just run it back!" Bad idea.

Graduate school personal statements are different than their undergraduate counterparts in a number of important ways because grad school is different than college. Your essay needs to be more mature, professional, focused on subject matter, and demonstrate a clearer sense of where you're going intellectually and professionally.
